Ugly Betty's Vanessa cast in Desperate Housewives

Vanessa Williams is heading to Wisteria Lane next autumn for a role on Desperate Housewives.
ABC network said the actress will play a 'wicked new housewife' as the series enters its seventh season.
Vanessa will hit the neighbourhood fresh from performing in the Broadway musical Sondheim On Sondheim, which runs until June. She starred in the recently concluded TV series Ugly Betty.
In 1984 Vanessa, 47, became the first African-American woman to be crowned Miss America. But a scandal broke over some unauthorised nude photos of her which forced her to relinquish the title.
