Dexter co-stars have divorced

Michael C Hall's off-screen marriage to Dexter co-star Jennifer Carpenter is apparently officially over.

People.com reports that, according to court documents, the former couple - who play siblings Dexter and Debra Morgan on the award-winning Showtime crime series - had their divorce finalised on December 2.

The 40-year-old actor and the 31-year-old actress married on New Year's Eve in 2008, and have no children.

Jennifer filed for divorce in August 2010, hours after Michael received a Screen Actors Guild nomination for best actor, citing irreconcilable differences.

Publicists for the former couple and Showtime did not comment on the divorce or how it may affect the show, which has been renewed for a seventh and eighth season.

In the show, Michael - who battled Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2010 - plays the titular character, a Miami lab analyst who leads a secret double life as a serial killer targeting other murderers, while Jennifer portrays a Miami police detective, who is unaware of his dark hobby.
