Matthew Morrison: 'Glee isn't High School Musical'

US series Glee shouldn't be compared to Disney film High School Musical, the show's star Matthew Morrison has said.
Matthew, who plays optimistic music teacher Will Schuester, said: 'A lot of people are trying to compare it to High School Musical, but the thing that separates us is the adult storyline - that and the fact that with our show we don't just break out into song in the middle of a conversation.
"That's what really grounds us and makes people more accepting of what we're doing.
"All of our songs come out of either rehearsal situations or performances, you know it's all done in a real setting and it's more acceptable because of that."
Corey Monteith (Finn Hudson) described Glee as 'quirky and upbeat and bright'.
He said: "I think what really makes you care about these characters, is that there's a real heart to the show."
"It's sweet, but it's not saccharine, it's not cheesy, but it's true. And I think there's something real about all these situations, all the storylines, all the plot points, that people can relate to their daily lives."
Glee is shown on E4 at 9pm on Mondays and is repeated on Channel 4 on Sundays.
