*The fourth series of Heroes premieres on Saturday January 9 at 10.10pm on BBC2*

A 19-episode fourth season of NBC's hit US drama begins with its next instalment - Volume 5: Redemption.

Volume 4 saw our heroes fight against Nathan Petrelli's (Adrian Pasdar) government-backed plan to round up the nation's specially-abled population using Danko and his special forces team. It was a fight they eventually won but at a high cost as the series culminated in Nathan's gruesome death at the hands of the evil Sylar (Zachary Quinto).

The mixed-up serial killer was tricked and caught by Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) and his mother Angela (Cristine Rose), but the Heroes still need an ally in the halls of power, so Matt (Greg Grunberg) used his mind control powers to make Sylar shape shift into Nathan's form and believe he really is the Petrelli brother. Nathan/Sylar was soon able to gain special political powers and full funding from the President himself to create a new and improved Company, headed by Noah (Jack Coleman).

Volume 5 kicks off six weeks later as the Heroes try once more to get back to their ordinary lives. But they're not in for an easy ride... Entering their world is a strange and dangerous carnival, a travelling band of people with powerful abilities led by the charismatic Samuel (Robert Knepper), who's aided by right-hand man Edgar (Ray Park), a deadly speedster with a talent for knives. Samuel's aim is to entice our heroes to join him... but to what end?
