Axe falls on US cult hit Heroes

The cult favourite Heroes is to be axed after four seasons, US TV network NBC has confirmed.
The show, which follows a group of ordinary people who discover they have superhuman abilities, made its debut on US screens in 2006.
It was initially a huge hit, pulling in an average of 14m viewers every week and making stars of several of its cast members including Hayden Panettiere and Milo Ventimiglia.
However the second series of the show was cut down to just 11 episodes as a result of the Writers' Guild Of America strike in 2007, and was criticised for its drawn-out storylines.
Since then ratings have steadily fallen, with audiences for the most recent series dropping to less than four million.
There had been recent speculation that NBC would renew the show for a final, shorter, fifth season. However the network has now decided instead to focus on several new shows due to debut in the autumn.
