BBC cuts to hit Heroes and other US shows?

The future of Heroes on the BBC could be affected as the broadcaster has confirmed that the budget for hit American shows will be cut by £25 million.

The broadcaster usually spends £100 million on such programmes, but could slash the budget and get rid of digital radio stations 6Music and the Asian Network.

The plans are part of the BBC Strategy Review, which aims to cut costs by £600 million.

General Secretary of broadcasting union BECTU Gerry Morrissey told The Sun: "These proposals are unnecessary.

"It is not acceptable for the BBC to offer up services and jobs as a sacrifice ahead of the general election.

"This is the BBC cutting itself up before it believes a Conservative government would do so."

BBC bosses are expected to speak to staff today (Tuesday) about the proposals.
