Close to You & Pass/Fail

Lydia is unconvinced Samuel's plans will unfold and calls out for someone worthy to replace him. That person is revealed to be Peter, who wakes to see the compass tattoo on his arm.

Peter later discovers the same marking on Emma's cello, and learns Samuel had given it to her. Angela then reveals to him a dream in which Emma would be responsible for hundreds of deaths. Using his mother's ability, Peter sees Sylar offering to save Emma. When he wakes, Peter destroys the cello.

Hiro and Ando arrive at the psychiatric hospital where Mohinder is being held and manage to teleport out of the facility after Ando uses his powers to restore Hiro's mind.

After getting a lead on Vanessa, Noah then convinces Matt to use his ability to make her reveal that she is still in contact with Samuel. But when Noah tries to catch Samuel during their next meeting, the two manage to escape.

Noah returns to his apartment, where he and Lauren make up. However, they are soon interrupted by Hiro, Ando, and Mohinder who teleport into the room...

*Followed by Pass/Fail*

Mohinder leaves for India, but not before constructing a device for Noah that appears to function like Samuel's compass.

Hiro then passes out from his brain tumour, and wakes to find himself on trial for using his abilities for personal gain: this is punishable by death. He finds himself in a kangaroo courtroom, presided over by his dead father Kaito and Adam Monroe. When Hiro pleads guilty, his heart stops in reality. But as he fights to the death with Adam, Hiro's mother Ishi heals his tumour and brings him back to life.

Samuel attempts to woo Vanessa. But despite his romantic gestures, Vanessa realises her heart does not belong to him and is released. Later, a furious Samuel uses his powers to demolish an entire city.

Sylar pretends to hold Gretchen hostage in a bid to get close to Claire. Using Lydia's ability, he tries to look into her soul. But she flees, and while taking refuge with Gretchen, Claire admits her powers are messing up her life. Gretchen then morphs into Sylar, who confesses that Gretchen's life was never in danger. Claire is relieved when she finds the real Gretchen, and is ready to take their friendship to the next level.
