Matt is pestered by Sylar's consciousness while on a drugs raid with his partner, Green. As the two cops storm the house, Sylar guides Matt to the drug dealer's hiding place but tricks him into thinking the dealer has a kidnapped girl hidden in the house.

Enraged, Matt beats the dealer, only to find that the girl is a figment of his imagination, planted there by Sylar. Now Matt's in trouble and decides to manipulate Green's mind into believing the dealer had attacked him before being stopped by Matt. Sylar has forced him to use his powers and he gives Matt an ultimatum - either every day can be like this or Matt can find Sylar's body!

After being observed falling from her dorm-room window, Claire tries to avoid Gretchen but, when she can dodge her no longer, she decides to let her in on her superpower secret. After demonstrating her abilities by allowing Gretchen to cut her hand, she invites her new friend to become her room-mate.

Meanwhile, at the carnival, Samuel tells Lydia that he has found someone to fill the space left by his brother, Joseph. Back in New York, Peter finds he's being sued for injuring a William Hooper when rescuing him. Peter finds Hooper, not realising it's really Samuel, and apologises to him, going on to talk him though his bereavement.

Samuel tells him he's just the person he's looking for and says he's dropping the charges. He leaves to visit the house he and Joseph grew up in only to be refused entry by the owner and, in his anger, he uses his special powers to sink the house and its occupants into the ground.

And Peter meets hospital filing clerk Emma Coolidge who's deaf but starting to see colours instead of hearing sounds.
