Having taken control of Matt's body, Sylar decides to travel to New York to question Peter about what happened to him, but Matt makes him pack a gun in his hand luggage. Airport security picks him up and it takes Sylar hours to talk himself out of custody. Later, he stops at the Texas diner he's visited before and forces Matt to reveal the whereabouts of his body. But Matt makes the unwitting Sylar write a threat to kill everyone in the diner onto his napkin. The cops are called and surround Sylar in the carpark, but Matt makes him reach inside his jacket, as if for a gun, and the cops shoot him down! Has Matt sacrificed himself in the process?
After the ordeal in the slaughterhouse, Gretchen decides she can't take any more and leaves. Claire calls her father for help and the Haitian wipes the memories of the other girls involved, while Noah goes through Becky's belongings. Samuel is waiting for Claire in her room and explains that Noah killed Becky's father. It's him she's after, not Claire! Noah wants to take Samuel in for questioning, but an invisible Becky attacks him, only to be brought down by a taser-wielding Samuel. Noah trains his gun on them but Claire stops him from shooting and Samuel and Becky head back to the carnival. Samuel, however, feels sure that Claire is becoming sympathetic to their cause.
Meanwhile, Peter's trying to heal as many train crash victims as he can, seriously depleting his own energy. In the chaos, Emma saves the life of a young girl and eventually decides to continue her medical training.
And Nathan/Sylar awakes at the carnival in Nathan's form. Distressed, he flies off to New York to seek Peter's help.
