A quick chat with Josh Holloway
Lost star Josh Holloway, who plays Sawyer, chats about taking a beating, staying in shape and treading the boards...

How has the atmosphere been on set for this final series? "Bittersweet. It’s felt a lot like the first series, which was magical, and everyone's been getting that sense of camaraderie and nostalgia."

Who will you miss the most when Lost is finally over? "Jorge Garcia [Hurley], because he makes me smile and is always calm. Also he has the best chair on set, which I like to sit on."

How do you feel about leaving Hawaii? "My wife and I are in love with Hawaii, so we’re going to hang on to our home there, but LA is where the work is. I’m working on my surfboard business, but it’s not coming along too good!"

What’s the most painful injury you’ve sustained while filming Lost? "I took a punch from Michelle Rodriguez, my knee popped once when my boot stuck in the mud, and I had stitches when I was hit in the face with a rifle. We’ve all taken some brutal beatings on this show."

Do you know how things will end for Sawyer? "They have kept me in the dark from day one. Maybe Hurley and I will hook up and live happily ever after. I always thought Sawyer should die saving a frog or something crazy like that, but now I feel he’s earned a second chance."

You spend a lot of time topless in Lost. Do you have to work out to stay in shape? "Do I ever! I’m not 25 any more and I like beer. It takes about a month-and-a-half of hard training and dieting, and then I just blow it all right away on Big Macs and French food."

Sawyer has changed so much. Did you have any idea of where he would go from the start? "Absolutely not. When I read the pilot I was like, ‘This guy's such an asshole. Unless he's got another dimension, he's going to be killed real quickly. I gotta figure out how to stay alive'."

What has the show meant for you, personally? "Playing Sawyer has been enlightening, an honour, and scary. I've had so many life-changing experiences since Lost began. I've got married, bought my first home, had a child and gained validation as an actor. It's been a phenomenal journey."

Can you see yourself attending Lost conventions in years to come, or will you have better things to do? "I don't know what you're talking about. I'm retiring. I'm only doing conventions."

Seriously, what would you like to do next? "It would be great to come over to England and do some theatre, but I’m a little intimidated by it. That’s for serious actors and I guess I don’t consider myself to be on that level yet."

Would you fancy playing an action hero, like James Bond? "If they ever wanted a country Bond, I would be it! Daniel Craig is great, but my favourite is Roger Moore because I grew up with him. I liked his way of delivering lines to the ladies."
