Ilana asks Miles to find out how Jacob died. When Miles reveals that Jacob was killed by Ben, Ilana decides to kill him. As a chained up Ben digs his own grave, Locke visits him and helps him escape. Ilana pursues him and, cornered, Ben explains himself – prompting Ilana to offer him another chance to redeem himself.

Meanwhile, Hurley and Jack encounter Richard in the woods and he leads them to the Black Rock prison ship that lies in the jungle. Richard wants to kill himself, but because of the gift Jacob gave him, he cannot. He asks Jack to help blow him, but when Jack decides to join him in the suicide, the dynamite simply won't explode. It seems Jack has also been touched by Jacob's gift.

In the flash-sideways, Ben is a teacher who decides to blackmail his school's headmaster. However, this version of Ben is also redeemed when he backs down after the headmaster threatens to ruin his top student's (Alex Rousseau) chances of getting a scholarship.
