Happily Ever After

Desmond wakes up to discover Widmore has kidnapped him and brought him back to the island. Widmore reveals that Desmond has an important gift and ties him up in a mysterious room where a worker has just been burned to death.

Widmore turns a switch and room begins to vibrate. Desmond flashes to alternate world self. He is now Widmore's top man and has been asked to keep an eye on Charlie, who is set to perform at a charity concert.

Charlie reveals that, after almost dying from swallowing the drugs, he saw another world where he was in love with a mysterious stranger, Clare. He then grabs the steering wheel from Desmond and the pair crash into the harbour. Desmond has a near-death flash and he sees Charlie dying on the island, before remembering his love for Penny.

Forced to tell Mrs Widmore that Charlie has gone Awol, Desmond learns that Widmore is married to Eloise Hawking. Overhearing the name Penny, Desmond tries to learn who she is, but Eloise stops him - telling him he's not ready to learn more.

However, Desmond runs into Daniel who reveals he has also had a flash that revealed his love for a mysterious redhead, Charlotte. Daniel is sure that he is responsible for changing history, but can't work out how, and tells Desmond how to find Penny.

After meeting Penny, Desmond wakes up on the island. Widmore tells him he has to make a sacrifice and Desmond willingly agrees. Later, as Desmond is being moved, he is kidnapped by Sayid and puts up no resistance.

However, the parallel world Desmond is busy trying to reunite the passengers of Flight 815 so he can show them how their lives actually should be…
