Exile on Main St

A year has passed since the terrible events in the series five finale that saw Lucifer and Michael being sent to Hell, with Sam following in their wake. Dean is now living the quiet life with Lisa and Ben, but not all is well, as Dean has become paranoid that demons may strike at any moment.

His fears are founded when a woman in his neighbourhood goes missing and he finds claw marks near where she was last seen. With Lisa and Ben in a safe house, Dean finds himself face to face with his old nemesis Azazel, the yellow-eyed demon. Suddenly, Sam appears injecting his brother with a drug, which causes Azazel to disappear.

When Dean wakes, Sam tells him he has been poisoned by a Djinn and was hallucinating. Dean then learns that Sam has been back from Hell for a year and has been living with cousins. On meeting Gwen, Christian and Mark Campbell, Dean gets a further shock when his grandfather Samuel, who died in 1973, appears. Samuel then explains that whatever resurrected Sam also brought him back.

The reunited family of hunters then set out to destroy the Djinn by returning to Dean's house where Lisa is shocked to learn of Sam's resurrection and Dean is angered once more when he learns Bobby knew of Sam's return and kept it secret.

After encountering and dispatching the Djinn, Dean decides to stay with Ben and Lisa because he's put them at risk of further attacks. As Sam leaves, Dean gives him the keys to the Impala, but Sam turns him down and drives away in his own car.
