You Can't Handle the Truth

While Bobby does some research on Sam's strange behaviour, Dean heads to Illinois to help his brother investigate a series of deaths where the victims had people telling them the cruel truth about themselves, which led them to commit suicide.

While Sam checks out the morgue, Dean questions a bartender who starts blurting out truths. When Bobby does the same thing, Dean suspects he has been cursed. His suspicions are proved correct when Lisa calls and tells him she doesn't want be involved with him anymore because he has serious issues with his brother.

Learning the bodies of the suicides have all disappeared, Sam does some research and discovers Veritas, the Goddess of Truth has been invoked. Suspecting a local reporter is the goddess in human form, the brothers check out her apartment. There they discover a shrine and the partially consumed bodies of Veritas' victims, before the goddess knocks them out. When they come to, she compels Dean and Sam to tell the truth to each other, but Sam resists her spell. She then accuses him of not being human. This shocks Dean.

Sam eventually frees himself and kills the goddess with a knife tainted with dog's blood. Dean then grabs another knife and confronts his brother over the whole vampire incident. Sam admits he can't feel any emotions anymore and that he needs help. The episode ends with Dean beating his brother unconscious.
