*The Mentalist is taking a break and will be back in the New Year*

This new season of the hugely popular show continues to follow the work of Patrick Jane (Golden Globe nominee Simon Baker), an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), as he uses his razor-sharp skills of observation and ‘psychic’ tricks to help solve crimes.

Jane made his name as a TV psychic, but, in a bid to raise his own profile, made a televised appeal to a serial killer known as Red John, only for the killer to murder his wife and daughter.

Quitting his TV role, Jane found that his remarkable powers of observation have become an asset to the police and now works with senior agent Teresa Lisbon’s (Robin Tunney) CBI team as an independent consultant. Despite his reputation for solving a series of tough high-profile cases, however, Jane is notorious for his blatant lack of protocol.

Lisbon’s team also includes interrogator Kimball Cho (Tim Kang), explosives expert Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman), and agent Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti), who all share their leader's views of Jane.

Season 4 picks up soon after the events of the season 3 finale, with Patrick Jane being arrested for the public murder of the man he believes to be the serial killer who murdered his wife and daughter. However, the evidence doesn’t seem to bear out Jane’s claims. Could it be that the man he’s killed is not Red John after all?
