Ring Around the Rosie

Lisbon's team are working crowd control at a political rally when they come across the dead body of a man in an alleyway. He has multiple stab wounds. Jane is asked for his opinion and, as he makes his way to the scene, he spots a suspicious character in the crowd. He persuades Lisbon to search the man and he's found to have a loaded gun and is quickly taken in. It's soon apparent that everything about Henry Tibbs, however, is legal, though Jane is still sure he's dangerous. Luther Wainwright, the team's young new boss, wants to release him but, at Jane's insistence, they're given 24 hours to prove his suspicions.

Meanwhile, the victim is identified as photographer Scott Gibson and his mobile has just been used by a homeless man Lisbon recognises as former musician Willy Schubert. He confesses to the killing but Lisbon thinks he's just trying to get off the streets. She traces Gibson's stolen camera and accesses its memory card, which reveals images of Gibson's killer attacking him. Willy identifies the assailant as a homeless man with 'anger issues' and he's quickly picked up.

Back at the office, Jane devises a fake job interview for Tibbs to identify his psychopathy but Tibbs' answers only convince Wainwright that he's psychologically sound. Jane, however, is sure Tibbs has the 'conscience of a mollusc'. Jane and Lisbon search Tibbs' home and find an arsenal of weapons and indications that he's targeting the mayor, but Wainwright will only arrest him on illegal gun ownership, so Jane devises a plan to trigger Tibbs into showing his real self.

The team monitor the mayor's garden party and, sure enough, Tibbs arrives and fires his Uzi into the crowd! Suddenly, it's apparent nobody has been hurt - Jane and Lisbon had loaded his weapons with blanks. Once again, Jane was right all along.
