It’s Fashion Week and Betty discovers a new designer called Marisa, but she first has to convince Wilhelmina that Marisa is worth Mode’s backing. Marc helps Betty pitch Marisa’s designs to Wilhelmina, but unfortunately gets all the credit for finding her. Meanwhile, Amanda teams up with Helen to form their own fashion label and asks Betty to lobby Wilhelmina on their behalf. Daniel gets persuaded to stand in as a male model at the show, but gets upstaged by Claire’s son Tyler who is mistaken for a model while waiting for his mother at Mode.

Hilda moans to Bobby that her beauty salon needs updating and jokes that a fire would be the answer. Pre-show nerves cause the young designer to call round at the Suarez’s and she leaves her designer garments with Betty for safe-keeping.

That evening a fire breaks out at the Suarez’s. Marisa’s outfits appear ruined but Justin and Amanda adjust the fire-damaged clothes and turn them into a ‘Smokin Hot’ line. Betty praises Amanda for her styling expertise and encourages her to pursue her new-found talent. Claire tells Tyler he is her son, but asks him to keep it secret. Daniel witnesses the pair talking and tells Claire he’ll be glad to see the back of him. Hilda’s suspects Bobby might have had something to do with the fire… Justin takes out the rubbish and sheepishly bins a packet of cigarettes.
