‘Being an assistant is boot camp. Being an editor is war!’ Wilhelmina’s words of wisdom echo in Betty’s ears as she starts her new editor’s role at Mode. Betty’s first day is a disaster. Her ex-boyfriend Matt is now her boss, but refuses to talk to her. Marc is still bitter at not getting promoted and Betty’s new colleague Megan is just plain rude.

Things are not good for Daniel, either, who is having trouble dealing with the death of his wife Molly, and Justin’s first day at high school sees bullies ruin his new pink Gucci shirt.

Meanwhile, Wilhelmina is unsure about her job security under Claire and Hartley’s Management, but is surprised to learn that they want her to stay. Wilhelmina has other things on her mind, though, when her daughter Nico turns up at her apartment with blood on her hands, declaring: “I think I’m in trouble!’

When Betty’s first feature assignment on insect jewellery is thrown out by Wilhelmina, she has to quickly re-think and comes up with the idea to promote malaria awareness with an elaborate mosquito-net fashion spread supported by the United Nations.
