Ellise Chappell is delighted to have joined the cast of BBC1’s hit Cornish costume saga Poldark as Morwenna Chynoweth, Elizabeth’s sweet-natured cousin.
She made her debut last week in the opening episode of series three when George Warleggan employed her to be the governess of Elizabeth’s first-born son Geoffrey Charles.
“Morwenna is very gentle, kind and conscientious,” Ellise told WOTV in our exclusive video interview.
“She is very dutiful, it is all about duty and what is right and wrong. But then, she has got this other side to her who just loves to explore. I think she has a little bit of fire inside, which she isn’t quite aware of, but it is definitely there.”
In the first episode, it was love at first sight when Morwenna met Drake Carne (fellow new cast member Harry Richardson) on the cliff tops. And Ellise tells us why they would make such a great couple…
“For Mowenna, he is just this really wonderful person who opens her eyes to new thoughts and approaches to things. They kind of just go together like jigsaw pieces and it is just really beautiful.”
Given Poldark’s global success, it’s understandable that Ellise was daunted at the prospect of joining an established cast.
“I was quite nervous at first because this show is amazing and there are some amazing people in it,” she said. “But as soon as I met everyone, I was like: ‘What was I nervous about?! Everyone is so lovely and welcoming.’ It felt like we became a family.”
Ellise also revealed why people should tune into series three….
“It is so exciting, it is full of love and passion but also risk and so much danger and plot twists. I think everyone will be hooked!”
