As fans of Waterloo Road come to terms with long-term teacher Grantly Budgen's exit, the blow is softened by the return of a familiar face the following week.
Naveed Choudhry, better know as cheeky schoolboy Tariq Siddiqui, is set to return to the school drama on October 17th (8pm, BBC1) for one episode. During his time in the show (2011 – 2012), Tariq went from being a teen tearaway to something of an inspiration, after a traffic accident left him in a wheelchair. When we last saw the popular character, he was leaving Scotland’s most unusual school to train for the Paralympics.
Speaking to What’s on TV about his return, the actor, admitted, it was a difficult secret to keep under wraps!
“It’s been a hard secret to keep. Lots of Waterloo Road fans ask me on Twitter about Tariq coming back, so I’ve been saying ‘You never know!’ I’ve kept it guarded.”
He added: “I can’t help but respond to questions like that on Twitter. It’s such a great forum to interact with fans of the show – when I was young there was nothing like that. I often get asked about how to get into acting, and it’s nice to be able to point people in the right direction.”
Naveed’s full interview will be available on What’s on TV on Tuesday.
