Big Brother’s Jemima warned over racial comments

Big Brother housemate Jemima Slade has been given a formal warning after an apparent race row erupted over her comments on who she would date.

Jemima, who runs a dating website, was asked by fake housemate Michael Dylan what her own dating preferences would be and, according to the Daily Mirror, shocked fellow housemate Gina Rio with her answer.

In scenes yet to screen on Channel 4, she said: “I go for darker looking, not black, but darker features, Mediterranean. I wouldn’t generally go for a black guy. I like darker guys, but not black guys. Wouldn’t really go for Chinese. I like mixed race.”

Gina pulled the 41-year-old up on her comments, saying: “Just the way you said, ‘I don’t like black men’, it’s the way you said it. I didn’t like it and I felt a certain way and I felt very, very offended and I can’t help the way I feel.”

But Jemima claimed that wasn’t what she’d said and offended Gina further: “I’ve got loads of black friends. I wouldn’t go for a Chinese guy, generally that’s my taste, you probably wouldn’t go for a white guy.”

Gina shot back: “Why would you say that? How would you know that I haven’t been out with a white guy? Just because I’m black why would you assume?,” before Jemima accused her of making it into ‘a racial thing’ and it descended into a general argument.

A Channel 5 spokesperson said “Big Brother has told Jemima her comments were not acceptable and she has received a formal warning.”

Gina, who told other housemates she may have just ‘experienced racism’, is also nominated for eviction this week with Dexter Koh and Sallie Axl.

They were nominated for eviction by the public, but they think they have been nominated by People’s Puppet Michael.

This year viewers will be voting for who they want out rather than who they want to keep in the house.
