Jade Goody is set to undergo further surgery to relieve her “awful pain” according to her publicist Max Clifford.

The terminally ill former Big Brother star is set to be admitted to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she has undergone most of her treatment for cervical cancer.

She has spent the weekend at a hospice in Harlow, Essex, to receive treatment after her painkilling medication caused her to suffer hallucinations.

Clifford said on Sunday afternoon that he had had a “very emotional” phone call with Jade.

“She has a great deal of pain from her tummy and they don’t seem to be able to get it under control,” he said.

“She is going back to the Marsden. There’s likely to be further surgery tonight or tomorrow.”

The 27-year-old was hoping to return home from the hospice on Monday, but Clifford said that doctors had explained surgery was the best option.

“I think it’s just to get her out of the awful pain that she’s in,” he told the BBC News website.

“It’s a continuing process but we hope they will be able to get things under control.

She’s very frightened. She was sobbing on the phone to me. She said: ‘Why can’t they get me out of all this pain?’.

“Hopefully that’s what they’re going to do.”
