Hosts Ant and Dec say they haven’t needed to get involved with any dangerous acts at this year’s Britain’s Got Talent auditions.

In last year’s series, Ant went onto the stage to assist blindfolded magician Aaron Crowe, who used a sword to slice a pineapple on Ant’s head.

Speaking on the red carpet, as the audition trail arrived in London, Ant admitted: “I feared for myself last time”, with Dec adding: “I feared for him too – I thought I was going to have to carry on on my own!”

Dec also admitted that Simon’s impending fatherhood has done little to soften him as a judge. “When something like that happens and you think he’s going to mellow, he goes the other way because he doesn’t want to be seen as a softie.”

Ant added: “He’s grumpier than usual – he’s been a real grumpasaurus!”

The pair also commented on winning the National TV Award for entertainment presenter for the 13th year running.

Dec said: “Somebody will stop us at some point!”
