Susan Boyle has appeared on the first night of the Britain’s Got Talent live tour, despite speculation that she would not be well enough to perform.

The 48-year-old wowed fans at the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham, with renditions of I Dreamed A Dream – the song she performed at her original audition – and Memory, from the musical Cats.

There had been doubts over whether Boyle would appear on the tour after she spent four days in London clinic The Priory with exhaustion.

She caused further concern on Friday when she failed to show up for rehearsals. However it was confirmed shortly before the show started that she would sing.

A spokeswoman for Boyle said that it was her decision to appear and that she was put under no pressure to perform.

Show host Stephen Mulhern – who presents Britain’s Got More Talent on ITV2 – introduced her as being “famous all over the world”.

“Even her pet cat Pebbles is famous,” he joked before going on to say the pet would be unable to appear because she was in Las Vegas.
