James Corden has tuned up for his portrayal of singing superstar Paul Potts in the biopic One Chance.
In the first shot from the upcoming film, the funnyman – who is playing the Britain’s Got Talent-winning opera singer – is seen speaking to Mackenzie Crook in a mobile phone shop, where Paul worked before he found fame.
It is thought Mackenzie portrays Paul’s best friend and Carphone Warehouse colleague in the upcoming film, which tells the story of the tenor’s rise to fame.
Alexandra Roach has been cast as Paul’s wife Julie-Ann Cooper, while Julie Walters and Colm Meaney are playing his parents. Simon Cowell is also rumoured to make a cameo as himself.
The film is being directed by David Frankel, who helmed The Devil Wears Prada.
Paul – who was crowned the champion of the ITV show in 2007 – has said he turned down the opportunity to cameo as himself, saying it would have been “bizarre”.
“Someone said maybe Julie and I should sit in the back of the church as part of the congregation at our own wedding but that would have been just too bizarre. It would have been real Hitchcock that would, because Hitchcock used to do that kind of thing,” he told The Sun.
“There wasn’t the opportunity of another cameo because I was in and out of the country while they were making it so we couldn’t have planned for anything like that.”
One Chance will be released in cinemas on October 25, 2013.
