Susan Boyle’s debut album makes chart history

Singer Susan Boyle has gone straight to number one in the UK album charts with her debut, after it became the fastest selling album in chart history.

The Britain’s Got Talent star, who was runner-up in the 2009 series, has sold 410,000 copies of I Dreamed A Dream in the UK over the past week.

And mogul Simon Cowell said he was proud of her, adding that her success could not have happened to a nicer person.

“She did it her way and made a dream come true,” he said.

“In Britain’s Got Talent she opened her mouth and the world fell in love with her, which is why her album has been the fastest selling of any woman making her debut.”

Boyle’s album is also expected to be a big hit in the US, where it is currently outselling albums by Rihanna, Lady Gaga and rapper 50 Cent.

A spokeswoman for the singer said she was on course to break Eminem’s previous record for highest first week sales in the US.

There was further success for Boyle in the singles chart where her track Wild Horses debuted at number nine.
