Phillip Schofield: ‘It would be fun to play myself in a soap’

British Soap Awards presenter Phillip Schofield says he’s yet to appear in any of the UK’s five soap operas, but would relish the opportunity to.

Phillip explained to What’s on TV why he thinks he’s not been asked to appear in Coronation Street, Emmerdale, EastEnders, Hollyoaks or Doctors.

“I don’t think I’d ever get asked because what I do for a job would overshadow any character [I’d play]. You have to be in a soap for a while before people forget what you’ve done in elsewhere.

“I think it would be fun to go into a soap and play myself. It’s always terrific when you get a mention in them – often one of the characters will be watching This Morning, so I’ve been mentioned a few times!”

Phillip, who presented 2014’s star-studded British Soap Awards from London in May, added: “My favourite bit of presenting the soap awards is going on stage to say hello to everyone in the audience before we start recording. It’s such a bizarre feeling to see all the faces in the soap world looking back at you!”
