Casualty gets two new central characters

Costume drama stars Oliver Coleman and Charlotte Salt are stepping into the 21st century after joining the cast of Casualty.

Charlotte, 25, who previously appeared in The Tudors and the Ray Winstone film Beowulf, will join the BBC One medical drama as ambitious and fiery army medic Sam Nicholls.

Meanwhile, The Other Boleyn Girl star Oliver, 28, will play paediatric specialist Tom Kent, described as a brilliant doctor whose maturity at work doesn’t always carry over into his private life.

Series producer Nikki Wilson said: “Charlotte and Oliver are incredibly talented, much sought-after actors and we’re delighted to welcome them to the new Casualty set in Cardiff.

“Both new characters are set to inject a shot of excitement into the emergency department and, as ever, both will have an air of intrigue about them.”

Casualty, which recently celebrated its 25th birthday, is the world’s longest-running primetime medical drama.
