Casualty fans will be delighted to learn Kwame Kwei-Armah is returning to TV in ITV1’s cracking crime drama, Cold Blood II.

Former Stars in their Eyes host Matthew Kelly will play intellectual murderer Brian Wicklow in the show.

Kwame, who played paramedic Fin in the BBC One show, features as prison governor Brendan Morrison.

When asked what drew him to the role, he said: “It was the whole script. I felt it was very clever and interesting. I had previously worked with the producer, Ian White, when we both worked on Casualty and I really wanted to work with him again.”

The thesp described how he wanted to portray Morrison: “Prison governors seem to be clinically cool, everything in their mind just seems to be under control. I wanted Brendan to have that level of calmness and intellectual curiosity.”

He clearly relished his scenes opposite Kelly, who is reprising his role as the clever criminal, and Kwame gushed about the star, as well as leading lady Jemma Redgrave.

“I had met Matthew before,” he enthuses, adding: “I just can’t get over how lovely he is. I adored being with Jemma – we went for dinner a few times and I have to say being with theatrical royalty and a woman of great integrity and intelligence was amazing. She’s a great actress.”
