The mother of Celebrity Big Brother housemate Shilpa Shetty has signed up legendary PR fixer Max Clifford.

Sunanda Shetty said too many people were proclaiming to be her daughter’s representatives. She said: “I think it’s very necessary for me to take this route.”

Sunanda flew into England earlier this week in preparation for Shilpa’s re-emergence from the Big Brother house.

Meanwhile, the voting blunder over whether viewers were phoning to save or evict Shilpa sparked fury on Big Brother fan websites.

One fan said: “It’s all gone pear-shaped. You would think after all of the adverse publicity that they would make sure that they got it all right.”

Another added: “C4 are probably panicking in case Shilpa does not win, and then the whole thing will blow up again… and (they) might get accused of all sorts.”

Ofcom said it had not received any complaints.

Rob Dwight, spokesman for the premium rate services regulator Icstis, said: “We have requested the tapes from C4. We’ve not had any public complaints, but we are looking into it. If there’s an alleged technical breach of the code we have to investigate that.”
