Cheryl Cole and TV presenter Fearne Cotton are among those celebrities who have set out on a charity mountain climb in aid of Comic Relief.

The pair began their bid to scale the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro early on Sunday morning. The trek is expected to take around eight days.

Cole’s fellow Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh is also among those taking part, along with I’ll Do Anything judge Denise Van Outen, and DJ Chris Moyles.

The line-up is completed by Take That’s Gary Barlow, Boyzone’s Ronan Keating, GMTV presenter Ben Shepard and former Strictly Come Dancing champion Alesha Dixon.

The team is aiming to raise more than £1m for malaria treatment in Tanzania, the country where Kilimanjaro is located.

More than £460,000 has been raised so far – £180,000 of which was raised by text message donations by the BBC Radio 1 audience on Friday.
