Peter Kay’s return to Phoenix Nights has raised more than £5 million for Comic Relief with a string of sell-out shows.

The programme’s cast reunited for 16 performances in Manchester, selling 196,000 tickets, which raised £5,031,146.47 – the most money raised by a live comedy show in the world.

Peter wrote on Facebook: “A huge thank you to everyone who came and supported Phoenix Nights Live.”

The opening night performance was rescheduled after cast member Ted Robbins fell ill on stage.

The curtain was closed immediately and staff rushed to the stage with medical equipment when the 59-year-old collapsed.

Ted plays Den Perry in the show, which is based on comedian Peter’s Channel 4 series of the same name.
