The cast of Coronation Street have been hit with an alcohol ban ahead of Thurday night’s live episode.

The show’s bosses have insisted that no alcohol must be drunk in the 24 hours before the cameras start rolling – not even a tipple to calm any last-minute nerves.

According the The Sun, producer Phil Collinson is said to want the stars to get as much rest as possible tonight to cut the chances of any mistakes happening on the day.

But as a thank-you, the cast will be rewarded for their hard work with a lavish champagne celebration on Friday.

A source said: “Phil feels it’s only right that everyone stays off the booze and keeps a clear head.

“Everyone is putting all their energy into making this week a huge success – and then crowning it with the mother of all parties.”

The live show marks the end of the special anniversary celebrations marking the show’s 50th birthday which see some of the well-known characters killed off by the tram crash.

Executives are also said to have banned the cast from having bets on who will fluff their lines, fearing it may put added pressure on the older stars.

The tram crash aftermath continues tonight at 7pm on ITV1 with the live episode at 8pm on Thursday night.
