Brooke Vincent has claimed she would quit Coronation Street if the soap’s writers ended her character’s lesbian relationship with Sian Powers.
The actress’s character Sophie Webster has become involved in an intense, headline-grabbing romance on screen with her best friend Sian, played by Sacha Parkinson.
Brooke – who joined the soap in 2004 – told Heat magazine: “If they split us up, I’d leave. It’s made too much impact for them to break it up. It’s gone past the line. Me and Sach think we should win Best Partnership at the Soap Awards.”
The 18-year-old admitted there was pressure for the two straight actresses – who are close friends in real life – to make the romance believable.
She added: “It’s mad when you realise how many people have come out because of the storyline. So many people have come up to us and said, ‘Thank you. Without this, I wouldn’t have been able to come out to my parents or have people accept me.’
Meanwhile, Sacha revealed how tight her bond with Brooke has become.
She said: “We just come as a pair now. We tell each other we love each other all the time. I think we’re really starting to become our characters.”
