Claire King is set for a winter in Weatherfield, as she joins the cast of Coronation Street.
The former Emmerdale actress will make her debut on the ITV soap in December as glamorous barmaid Erika, to catch up with her friend Liz McDonald – where she immediately sets her sights on unlucky-in-love businessman Nick Tilsley.
“I am beyond thrilled to be joining the cast of Coronation Street, playing the funny and feisty Erika, who looks certain to ruffle a few feathers once her high heels hit those world famous cobbles!” the actress said.
Claire, who starts shooting her scenes in October, continued: “A stint in Corrie is one of those ticks on most actor’s bucket list of jobs you dream of doing, so I can’t wait to start filming in a few weeks’ time!”
Erika, who first met Liz (Beverley Callard) in Spain after she landed a job at Liz’s bar, wastes no time in finding a toyboy as she seduces Nick (played by Ben Price), giving him a festive treat after a disastrous year, which saw him suffer a severe brain injury and split from wife Leanne (Jane Danson).
But her romance with Nick could be short-lived when she jets back to Spain after a few weeks.
The show’s producer Stuart Blackburn said: “Erika is a woman who lives life to the full. Nick doesn’t stand a chance once she has set her sights on him, but he’s not complaining!
“We are delighted to have Claire on board to play Erika. She is a fabulous actress who will be a great addition to the cast,” he added.
Claire, best known for playing Kim Tate in Emmerdale and prison officer Karen Betts in Bad Girls, left this summer’s series of Celebrity Big Brother on the 16th day due to illness.
