Coronation Street actor’s attacker spared jail

The man who attacked Coronation Street actor Mikey North when he saw him out with his ex-girlfriend has been spared a custodial sentence.

Mikey, who plays bad boy Gary Windass in the ITV1 soap, suffered a double fracture of his jaw and two black eyes after he was assaulted by an enraged Stuart Stocks in Scarborough town centre in April.

The actor was required to have three metal plates and four pins inserted in his jaw following the assault.

The court was told that Stocks, 19, had been seeing a girl called Lauren Flinton, but the relationship ended as she started dating the 22-year-old actor.

Stocks, a coachbuilder, came across his ex and Mikey during a night out in Scarborough, the court was told.

Magistrates heard the ‘red mist’ came over him and he launched an unprovoked attack on Mikey who was punched to the ground unconscious.

Magistrates imposed a community order for 12 months and told Stocks he would have to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work and pay £2,500 compensation to the victim as well as costs.
