Same name, different face…
Coronation Street bosses have re-cast the part of Marion Logan – mother of late drug dealer Callum Logan and grandma of young Max Turner.
The character will be back on the cobbles next week but will no longer be played by Susan Cookson. Instead, Kerry Peers has been drafted in as the meddling mum.
And if she looks familiar, that’s because Peers is no stranger to soap. She has had guest roles in Casualty, Holby City, Doctors, Waterloo Road and Brookside, although is probably best known for playing WDC Suzi Croft in The Bill, from 1993 to 1998.
Marion Logan was last in Coronation Street back in 2016, when the corpse of ‘missing’ son Callum was discovered underneath the Platts’ converted garage. Drug dealer Callum had been murdered by Kylie Platt the previous year in Coronation Street’s much-lauded live episode.
Kylie, you may recall, struck her ex on the head with a monkey wrench after she walked in on him attacking her sister-in-law Sarah. Kylie, Sarah and David then buried the gangster’s body in a bid to evade prison. The murder was later pinned on Jason Grimshaw’s late father, Tony Stewart.
When Marion pitches up on the cobbles next week, she will reveal that grandson Max has been secretly visiting her, and will subsequently leave Shona and imprisoned fiancé David reeling by embarking on a legal battle to get custody of the lad.
Corrie bosses have been forced to re-cast the part as Susan Cookson is now busy starring in another soap. Earlier this year, she was cast as Wendy Posner, the mum of Victoria Barton’s rapist, Lee, in Emmerdale.
As the new-look Marion returns to Weatherfield next week, over in the Dales, Wendy will re-visit Victoria when Lee dies following Robert Sugden’s attack on him in the Summer.
