Kym Marsh has reportedly been offered a lucrative new Coronation Street contract to keep her in place as barmaid Michelle Connor.

ITV bosses are said to have handed the 37-year-old soap star a bumper pay-rise and the promise of exciting new storylines during her 12-month contract extension.

“Kym is at the very centre of the show and there was no question about signing her up for another year,” a show source told the Sun On Sunday. “The scriptwriters are planning fantastic storylines for her later this year.”

The show are said to be keen to stem the flow of high-profile departures – among them Charlie Condou (Marcus Dent), Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow) and Michelle Keegan, whose character Tina McIntyre will be sensationally killed off soon.
