Coronation Street’s Kym Marsh tell Soaplife that Michelle thinks Steve’s gone right off her…
Michelle Connor’s a canny lass but even she can’t work out what’s wrong with partner Steve. “He’s distant, won’t talk to her and positively avoids spending time with her – she’s tried talking to him, but he just shuts her out and she’s now convinced he’s gone off her,” Kym explains to Soaplife. Unless Steve finally admits his depression, could Michelle decide she’s had enough?
Does Michelle have any idea Steve (Simon Gregson) might be depressed?
“None. She genuinely believes she’s the problem and doesn’t know what to do for the best.
Try talking to him more, perhaps?
“Not easy. She’s so convinced she’s the problem, she’s scared to push the situation in case she hears something she doesn’t want to hear. Also, things have reached such a pitch, she finds it difficult to communicate with Steve on any level. But she needs to know what’s going on as it’s making her very unhappy.”
Does she suspect he’s seeing another woman?
“The one thing she is sure of is that he isn’t having an affair. He’s spending a lot of time drinking in the bistro, but she’s not suspicious Steve fancies Steph [Tisha Merry]. He’s acting completely differently to the way he acted when he cheated on Michelle with Becky. Steve’s just trying to forget how he is feeling, but Michelle doesn’t know that so his behaviour just seems strange.”
Has Michelle tried talking to Liz (Beverley Callard)?
“Yes but it’s difficult as Liz is Steve’s mum and Michelle finds it awkward talking about the lack of intimacy in her and Steve’s relationship. Liz is as much in the dark as Michelle about Steve’s behaviour, but thinks he should pull himself together.”
Would Michelle be sympathetic if she found out Steve’s depressed?
“She’d obviously be very worried and concerned for him, but she’d also be his rock. She’s a nurturer and would do all she could to help him get better. She might feel a bit of guilt over not spotting the signs of his illness, although she’d be wrong to blame herself in any way.”
If things carry on as they are, is a split on the horizon?
“Yes – they could be heading for a split. It’s going to be a very difficult time for them both…”
