Coronation Street supremo Phil Collinson will start scanning the soap’s set for bugs to prevent storylines from being leaked to the press.

Soap bosses have confirmed that the producer is stepping up security measures in the build-up to the show’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

As well as bringing in a team to sweep for bugging devices, there will also reportedly be on-the-spot checks and questioning, plus a secure unit stationed in the show’s Green Room, where scripts will only be available through a locked door.

He has previously revealed that alternative scripts will be issued ahead of the soap’s big tram crash storyline, in a bid to keep the identities of the victims under wraps.
