Coronation Street’s Paula announces engagement

Coronation Street‘s Paula Lane couldn’t wait to share her excitement after getting engaged.

The 25-year-old actress, who plays feisty Kylie Turner in the soap, was delighted when her boyfriend Tom Shaw popped the question.

Paula tweeted: “Yesterday was the most amazing day! I went to York a girlfriend and came back a fiancee.”

Paula has been dating fellow actor Tom since she was 17.

In April she said: “Tom and I are moving up to Manchester in a few weeks’ time. We’re feeling very lucky at the moment as we’re both in a position where we’re working. I think we’re just enjoying being young, having holidays and loving life as a couple.

“But saying that, I’d definitely say yes to getting married if he asked me. I think he’s waiting to make sure it feels right – but he’s had long enough. We’ve been together for years. He’s definitely the one, there’s no doubt in my mind. It’s taking him a little longer to figure it all out. But we’re very happy.”

The actress arrived in Coronation Street as Becky McDonald’s half-sister in 2010 and Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky, has just left the soap and her character will leave the street in the New Year.

But Paula has had her contract extended to 2012.

On-screen Kylie is still married to bad boy David Platt, despite scepticism that their romance wouldn’t last.
