Coronation Street‘s Jim McDonald is set to try and buy the Rovers Return in an attempt to win back ex-wife Liz.

The reformed jailbird and alcoholic – played by Charles Lawson – is due to return to the street later this year and will offer to buy the pub from his son Steve and daughter-in-law Becky, to help them out of a tight spot with money.

Former barmaid Liz, played by Beverley Callard, manages the Rovers for Becky and Steve and loves being landlady of the pub, so Jim hopes working with her as her boss could bring them closer together.

Jim first appeared on Corrie’s cobbles in 1989 and he and Liz have had a long and rocky relationship.

He left in 2000, when he was sent to prison, although he did escape to marry Liz a second time.

He has since made several returns to the street and last came back in November for Jack Duckworth’s funeral when he again tried to rekindle his romance with Liz.

Jim sent her flowers, but they were intercepted by her new boyfriend Owen Armstrong, who warned him to leave her alone.

In December, Jim was beaten up and he told Steve it was Owen that had attacked him and he was worried for Liz’s safety.
