Coronation Street‘s Rovers Return will soon face stiff competition when a new wine bar, catering for more ‘upmarket’ clientele, opens its doors, according to the Sun.
The ITV1 soap’s storyline, set to screen in October, will see ex-alcoholic Peter Barlow launch the posh bar and eatery in the disused Turner’s Joinery building – the Rover’s first ever rival to open in the same street.
Peter is hoping ex-girlfriend and former Rovers barmaid Leanne Battersby will run it.
However, Peter, who plots to sell his bookmakers in order to raise enough money for the build, has to battle with his dad Ken, who believes running a bar is a bad idea for a man with a history of drink problems.
The swanky bar, which comes complete with a wine cellar, is expected to cause a stir among the locals as Peter plans to replace Newton & Ridley ales with European lagers instead.
An insider said: “Peter wants his venture to be a flash eatery that will be Weatherfield’s ‘place to be’.”
