Coronation Street legend Liz Dawn has said she dreads the day Jack Duckworth finds a new woman.

The 69-year-old actress, who played Vera Duckworth for 34 years until illness forced her to leave the soap and play out Vera’s death, confessed she gets jealous when she sees Jack with new lady friend Connie Rathbone.

She said: “34 years on Coronation Street, it’s been a funny life – when I watch it now well the only thing I hope is Bill doesn’t kiss this woman.”

She added: “I saw him last week and I said ‘don’t you dare kiss that woman’ and he said ‘oh no I won’t’.”

Liz, who has been dignosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), worked on the show for as long as she could before she retired.

She said: “I was really pleased that Granada asked me to, well to look after me, because they really didn’t want me to leave.

“So I just worked three weeks on and three weeks off, but I used to sit in my dressing room and I used to think ‘oh please, please let me be OK’.

“Rather than somebody knock on my door and say it’s your scene I used to go on set and sit there while the other scene before (was filmed), and when the set lit up I gave them all a shock.”

Liz is fronting The British Lung Foundation’s Breathe Easy Week.
