The drama continued to unfold in Coronation Street on Friday in the aftermath of the tram crash – with another casualty of the week’s events.
Viewers saw Charlotte Hoyle, played by actress Becky Hindley, bludgeoned by John Stape (Graeme Hawley) at the start of the week, but she was found to still be alive in Thursday’s live episode.
However she died on Friday after Stape had a hand in ensuring her life-support machine was switched off – in order to cover his tracks after he had passed her off as a victim of the crash.
Fans also learned the fate of Peter Barlow, played by Chris Gascoyne, after he flatlined in his hospital bed moments after he married Leanne Battersby in Thursday’s episode.
He was ultimately brought back from the brink of death but remains critically ill.
To further complicate matters Carla Connor (Alison King) confessed her love for Peter, causing his loved ones to clash at his hospital bedside.
The tram crash disaster – which has unfolded throughout the week – has been pulling in huge audiences for the show.
Thursday night’s seamless live broadcast, which saw characters Ashley Peacock and Molly Dobbs die, drew the biggest audience for almost seven years, with nearly 15 million tuning in at one stage.
