Coronation Street star Alan Halsall – aka Tyrone Dobbs – has said he feels “very sad” about the departure of his onscreen wife, played by Vicky Binns.

The actress – who has appeared in the soap as Tyrone’s adulterous wife Molly for the past five years – is due to leave the show following the exit of Tyrone’s father figure Jack Duckworth, played by Corrie veteran Bill Tarmey.

“I feel very sad actually,” Alan said. “This is how it is in Coronation Street. Characters come in, they are loved by millions and they do leave as well.

“It will be a tough time for Tyrone,” he added, “he lost his father and he’ll be losing his wife as well, but for me personally as an actor, I’ve spent five years working with Vicky, I will miss her an awful lot but I know she’ll go on and do great things anyway.”

The two characters have been involved in a love triangle storyline also featuring Kevin Webster – played by Michael Le Vell – who had an affair with Molly and may or may not be the father of her baby son.

Details of the character’s exit have not been revealed, but there is speculation she will be one of the victims of the tram crash that will mark the soap’s 50th anniversary in December.
