Natasha Blakeman’s attempted suicide shocked Coronation Street fans and now a similar scene, axed from the soap nearly 50 years ago, is to be broadcast.

The Corrie Years will screen later this year looking back at the soap’s 50-year history and some of it’s most dramatic storylines, the Daily Mirror reports.

It will include footage from 1963 when Sheila Birtles tried to commit suicide after being dumped by her lover.

Actress Eileen Mayers was filmed swallowing bottles of pills before vomiting in a bin, and was found and rescued by her neighbours on Coronation Street.

But when the controversial story line leaked, 60s TV audiences were shocked by the plot.

After receiving complaints from viewers soap bosses decided to cut the scene from the show, but Eileen was said to be disappointed at the decision.

Last year Coronation Street hairdresser Natasha, played by Rachel Leskovac, was shown attempting suicide after having an abortion.

Natasha was left heartbroken after boyfriend Nick Tilsley dumped her, and when she told him she was expecting his baby she was accused of lying in an attempt to win him back.

After booking a termination the distraught hairdresser tried to take her own life, before leaving the street.
