Corrie star Alan Halsall has joked his co-star Simon Gregson is jealous that Alan has four British Soap Award nominations to his none.

The actor plays Tyrone Dobbs, who has been at the centre of a gripping domestic abuse storyline. Alan is nominated for Best Storyline, Episode, On-screen Partnership, with Jennie McAlpine who plays Tyrone’s new girlfriend Fiz Stape, and Actor, which is voted for by the public.

The longtime Coronation Street actor said he is ‘thrilled and over the moon’ with the nominations, and has been enjoying the banter about voting with his co-stars on Twitter.

Alan joked: “Obviously it’s a bit awkward this year ’cause Simon Gregson’s not up for an award and I think he’s spat his dummy out a little bit. That’s where the problems therefore lie, because I think basically he’s just very jealous.

“Not only is he jealous that I’m nominated for the award, but I think he’s also jealous of my hairline. So that’s where the banter comes from.”

More seriously, he said of his nominations: “I don’t think I’ve got my head around it just yet because I’ve loved doing the story, so you don’t really think about the awards until they come along. The main one being a public vote, that means a lot.”

But Alan confessed he is already dreading walking the red carpet at the awards ceremony in May.

He admitted: “I’m not too comfortable with all that, really. I have one standard smile which is like a big grin. To be honest I just want to get in, get to the bar and start chatting. I just feel out of place.”
