Coronation Street‘s Alison King tells Soaplife that Carla is leaving Weatherfield – with or without Peter!

It started off as a mad passionate love affair, but it’s turned into a nightmare for Carla. Peter’s blaming her for everything that’s gone wrong in his life and when he tells her to go, she goes. “She feels guilty about how Peter’s gone downhill, but she’s losing the will to live with him a bit,” says Alison.

So does Carla regret getting involved with Peter?
“Only because of Simon. She loves Peter, but she feels a bit responsible for all the angst he’s going through over his son, and thinks maybe it would be easier if she’d have left him alone.”

How does she feel when Peter turns on her?
“They’re just in a really bad place and she’s losing patience because for once she’s been completely selfless and has pandered to his every need, walked around on eggshells and taken on his drinking and not judged him for it. Then all of a sudden he’s turning on her.”

And Carla walks out on him?
“Peter’s back on the booze and being really, really nasty to her. He starts saying she doesn’t fit in with his flat, there are things she’s bought that he doesn’t like the look of, and he tells her to pack her belongings and leave.”

And she does?
“She goes, but she doesn’t mean it; she thinks it will shock him into a reaction.”

But she gets the shock when Peter goes missing and then a body is found in the canal…
“Yes, she’s really worried. Even though he was the one saying things, she fears she’s pushed him over the edge. Michelle tries to tell her Peter has brought this on himself, but Carla loves him and she’s really scared. She wishes she could turn back time.”

The body isn’t Peter’s, but he’s vanished with Simon. Would Carla help Peter abduct his son?
“She would be stuck between trying to make Peter see sense and knowing that he’d go with Simon anyway so it would be better if she went with him. All I can say is it would be against the law for them to take Simon, but she’d still do that for Peter.”

We know that Carla and Peter are leaving soon. Are you looking forward to your break?
“Yes. It’s three years since I had a baby [daughter Daisy Mae] and I’ve been working for all of that time so I haven’t been able to spend too much time with my family. I plan to have a nice holiday and spend time at home getting jobs done on the house, all very normal stuff. But I love playing Carla and I’ll be back at work on 1 October.”
