Coronation Street star Anne Kirkbride has been forced to flee her holiday home in Spain after it was threatened by bush fires.

The 55-year-old – who plays Deirdre Barlow in the soap – was one of around 5,000 holidaymakers, many of them British, who had to leave the area of Mojacar in the south east of the country.

It is the second time in a week that she has had to abandon her Mediterranean home.

“It was very very scary for Anne and her husband Dave Beckett,” a source close to the couple told The Sun.

“She said that when she looked up to the hills and saw the flames and smoke she thought ‘that’s it – we’re going to lose everything'”.

“They’re back in the place now but are shaken up. Sadly, people have lost their homes. Anne is just keeping her fingers crossed, because the wind can change quickly.”

The blaze – which is feared to have been started deliberately – has destroyed 50 homes and 10,000 acres of land in the area. No holidaymakers have been hurt but five firefighters have been killed tackling the flames.
